Renowned producer 9th Wonder has just announced his latest venture: serving as the Executive Music Producer and music supervisor for Netflix’s animated reboot of the iconic 1970s sitcom, “Good Times.” The announcement was made on Wednesday, March 20, marking a significant development in the entertainment industry.
“Proud to officially announce that I am the Executive Music Producer and the Music Supervisor for @netflix Animated series… ‘Good Times’!” expressed 9th Wonder on Instagram, expressing his excitement for the project. He extended his gratitude to fellow producers Reuben Vincent, Howard “Give’m Soul” Joyner, George Pettus, and E. Jones for joining him on this musical journey, showcasing the collaborative effort behind the scenes.
The reboot of “Good Times,” set to premiere on Netflix on April 19, introduces a new generation of the Evans family while retaining the essence of the original series. The storyline remains grounded in the familiar setting of apartment 17C in a Chicago housing project, reminiscent of the 1970s backdrop that captivated audiences.
Co-created by Carl Jones, known for his work on “The Boondocks,” and Ranada Shepard, the show boasts a talented team with Shepard serving as the showrunner. Executive producers include Seth MacFarlane, the creative mind behind “Family Guy,” and NBA star Steph Curry, adding their expertise to the project.
Notably, the late Norman Lear, the mastermind behind the original series and other groundbreaking shows like “Maude” and “All in the Family,” was named as an executive producer before his passing in December 2023 at the age of 101. His legacy continues to influence the landscape of television, with his vision for “Good Times” being carried forward by the dedicated team behind the reboot.
In addition to his role as music supervisor for “Good Times,” 9th Wonder has recently been recognized by Billboard as one of the top 25 Hip Hop producers of all time. This accolade, received in late 2023, further solidifies his position as a trailblazer in the music industry.
