Doja Cat Announced Upcoming Album “Vie”

Doja Cat is gearing up to launch a bold new chapter in her music career with her upcoming album Vie, set to release this fall. The Los Angeles-born artist, who has already made waves with her genre-blending style, is embracing her pop instincts while still keeping her edge. In a recent cover story for V Magazine, the Grammy-winning singer and rapper opened up about what fans can expect from the new project, one that leans into both vulnerability and boldness.

Titled Vie — the French word for “life” — the album is described as an 80s-inspired, pop-forward body of work, yet it still carries the raw lyrical bite Doja Cat is known for. “I do want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a pop-driven project,” she shared. “Pop is just popular music. People often don’t respect it, but it’s just music — it’s how I’m choosing to express myself this time.”

While Vie taps into bright, melodic soundscapes, it’s lyrically rooted in complex emotions. At 29, Doja is taking a closer look at love, not just the kind that comes with breakups or bitterness, but the kind she hopes for in the future. “There was a time when people wanted to actually be with each other. Now it feels more hollow,” she said. “This album is very much about love in a way that reflects how I want it to be — not how it is right now.”

Doja doesn’t shy away from calling out the culture around modern relationships either. She acknowledges that many current songs reflect disappointment or apathy toward romance, especially from women. And while she has her own “ugh, men” moment on Vie, she says there’s more nuance in how she’s telling these stories.

Beyond the music itself, Doja seems most focused on artistic integrity over chart performance. “What I want to avoid is that little monster that just wants success,” she said, emphasizing that she’s prioritizing the quality of the sound and experience, not just sales. “If something I put out doesn’t perform like the last one, I want to embrace that.”

Since her 2023 album Scarlet — which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 — Doja has stayed active in the industry. She recently appeared on the official Formula 1 soundtrack alongside Don Toliver with their track “Lose My Mind,” and lent her voice to Lizzo’s fierce anthem “STILL CANT FUH.” With Vie, she’s promising a fresh take, one rooted in reflection, freedom, and her evolving definition of love.

As the fall release approaches, fans are eager to hear what’s next from the multi-talented artist who refuses to be boxed in.
