In a recent interview with XXL, Fetty Wap, the 32-year-old rapper, shared his thoughts on his career and time behind bars. Currently serving a six-year prison sentence for his involvement in a drug ring, Fetty Wap opened up about his reflections during this period.
He expressed accountability for his actions, emphasizing that he doesn’t blame anyone else for his situation. Fetty Wap acknowledged that he had surrounded himself with the wrong people and misplaced trust, leading to his downfall. He now focuses on distancing himself from such individuals.
Reflecting on his music career, Fetty Wap admitted that he could have taken it more seriously in the past. Despite the challenges ahead, including the impact on his career, he remains grateful for his life and the opportunity to see light at the end of the tunnel.
While recognizing the lengthy sentences of others around him, including friends facing decades or life in prison, Fetty Wap has found inspiration in their encouragement to take his music career seriously. He’s determined to make the most of his second chance when he is released.
Fetty Wap’s legal troubles began when he was arrested in October 2021 at New York’s Citi Field just before a performance at Rolling Loud Festival. He was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison for his role in a drug ring that involved distributing cocaine. Prosecutors argued that he had used his platform to glamorize the drug trade, which contributed to his longer sentence. Following his arrest, the FBI seized significant amounts of drugs, firearms, ammunition, and cash.
Fetty Wap’s interview sheds light on his self-reflection and the lessons he’s learned during his incarceration, providing a glimpse into his mindset as he looks towards the future of his music career.
