Gillie Da Kid recently shared that his son’s killer was a 17-year-old named Noah Scurry, who was also a drill rapper known as JokerOTV.
During an emotional interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay, Gillie talked about the 2023 murder of his son, Devin Spady, also known as YNG Cheese. When Sharpe asked if he had ever met his son’s killer, Gillie gave a shocking response:
“I never met him. The only reason I knew about him was that the police called me after he was murdered. They told me he was one of the suspects in my son’s case, but he was killed before he could be arrested.”
Scurry was shot 17 times while walking with his mother in Philadelphia last month. His death made national news because he was a talented high school basketball player and a top student. Police haven’t confirmed if the two shootings are connected, but Gillie believes they aren’t related.
“It wasn’t about my son,” he explained. “Those neighborhoods were at war. My son just happened to be there at the wrong time.”
When Sharpe seemed surprised that Scurry was involved in a shooting despite being a promising athlete, Gillie said, “You don’t get it. He had videos wearing a Joker mask and holding guns. These kids are influenced by the wrong things.” Gillie also opened up about his struggles with his son. “I won’t lie—I was trying hard to get him off the streets. We weren’t in the best place when he died because he wanted to live that street life, and I wasn’t okay with that.” He also talked about the painful moment he had to wash his son’s body as part of an Islamic burial tradition. “That was the hardest moment of my life, but it also made me a man,” he said. “It was painful, but I know I sent him off the right way, and in Islam, that’s really important.”
