IDK & Cordae Release New Single “Prince George”

Two of Prince George’s County’s most lyrically sharp voices—IDK and Cordae—have finally teamed up, and their joint single “Prince George” is a nod to where they came from and how far they’ve climbed. The track pairs two proud Maryland artists reflecting on personal struggles, public success, and the complex emotions that come with navigating both.

IDK, born and raised in Prince George’s County, has been on a prolific run over the past year. The rapper, known for his thought-provoking lyricism and genre-defying style, has released a full-length album, followed by a deluxe edition and a steady stream of singles. Most recently, he’s been paying tribute to his hometown through music, including his soundtrack work on Basketball County: In The Water, a documentary executive-produced by NBA star Kevin Durant.

“Prince George,” his latest offering, continues that tribute. The song features fellow PG County native Cordae, another skilled wordsmith who’s built a name for himself by blending introspection with technical prowess. Cordae, who also hails from the DMV area, has been making headlines lately with a mix of solo releases and standout features, and this track adds another high-caliber collaboration to his resume.

On the track, both artists exchange vulnerable yet confident verses over a soulful, woodwind-laced instrumental. IDK opens with a sense of guarded awareness, rapping, “Before I open up, I always look through the peephole / But even if I know you, it could be your own people.” It’s a line that captures the duality of growing up in a place where trust is earned, not given.

Cordae follows with vivid imagery and thoughtful introspection, delivering, “My life is a Rubik’s cube, every turn is beautiful / Although the world is super cruel, a n*** keep progressing.”* It’s a verse that acknowledges both adversity and ambition, painting a picture of someone who’s learned to keep moving forward despite everything.

The music video for “Prince George” adds visual depth to the narrative. Set against the backdrop of an Italian city, it weaves classical imagery—ancient ruins, Renaissance architecture—with flashes of PG County’s own landmarks and moments of conflict. The contrast highlights both the elegance and the edge that shape the artists’ perspectives.

The release comes at a moment of renewed focus on the DMV’s artistic output. Alongside this single, fellow PG County rapper Rico Nasty dropped her NPR Tiny Desk performance, and Wale, one of the region’s trailblazing MCs, released a new freestyle titled “CRG Freestyle.”

With “Prince George,” IDK and Cordae not only deliver a compelling musical moment—they also underline the creative fire still burning in their hometown. It’s the first time these two have linked up on a track, and based on their chemistry, hopefully not the last.
