Russ, the Atlanta-via-New Jersey artist, has once again demonstrated the financial benefits of independence in the music industry. He recently took to Twitter to share his impressive six-figure earnings within just one week, all thanks to his mastery of music ownership as an independent artist.
In a series of screenshots, Russ revealed that his current music royalties amount to a substantial $152,629.40, with his catalog raking in an additional $79,637.81. He used these figures to inspire fellow artists, emphasizing that one doesn’t need radio play, a record deal, or the biggest album in the world to achieve financial success. Instead, Russ believes in creating a substantial body of quality music and retaining ownership.
Russ also disclosed that he utilizes two distribution platforms, Vydia and TuneCore, both of which allow him to maintain 100% ownership of his music. He pays an annual fee for unlimited uploads, a strategy that has paid off significantly.
This isn’t the first time Russ has been transparent about his earnings and his value as an artist. In July, he discussed his monthly listeners count on Spotify, highlighting his “super listeners” who constitute almost 10% of his fan base, a much higher percentage compared to most artists.
Furthermore, in 2022, Russ turned down a jaw-dropping $50 million offer for his music catalog, as revealed in his track “Too Much,” produced by Boi-1da. He boasts about making money every second and encourages others to learn from his independent success story.
Russ’s ongoing streaming success and his willingness to share financial insights continue to inspire aspiring artists to take control of their careers and maximize their earnings in the music industry.
For inspirational purposes. This is the money I made this week off just the masters of my independent catalogue. It fluctuates weekly obviously but this is just to give insight. You do not need to be on the radio or signed or have the biggest album in the word to fucking cake.… pic.twitter.com/2PPewLNoNs
