Houston’s Travis Scott is turning up the heat this summer, building serious buzz around his highly anticipated compilation album JACKBOYS 2. Known for pushing sonic boundaries and always staying in the cultural mix, the multi-platinum artist and founder of Cactus Jack Records has been teasing fans with cryptic posts, jaw-dropping snippets, and even hints of a film release tied to the album.
It’s been nearly five years since the first JACKBOYS project, a seven-track collaboration featuring members of his label like Don Toliver and Sheck Wes, shot straight to No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Now, Travis is gearing up to deliver a sequel, and the timing feels just as calculated as the first drop. He’s already added Wallie the Sensei, a rising voice out of Compton, to the label and confirmed that Wallie will appear on the new project. With the addition of a short film directed by Harmony Korine, who previously worked with Scott on Aggro Dr1ft and Circus Maximus, JACKBOYS 2 is shaping up to be more than just music. It’s a full-on cultural moment.
The anticipation has only intensified in recent weeks. Fans had originally hoped the album would land around April 30 to coincide with Travis’s birthday, especially after he hinted on social media that his mom gave him the green light to release it on that date. Although the album didn’t drop then, it has since been made available for pre-order, accompanied by new merch that points toward a rollout sooner rather than later.
But the music isn’t the only thing making headlines. Virginia Beach’s own Pusha T, one-half of the legendary duo Clipse, reignited beef with Scott in his latest solo track “So Be It,” a promo single leading up to Clipse’s comeback album Let the God Sort Em Out, dropping July 11. On the track, Pusha calls out Travis not just as an artist, but as someone he feels lacks loyalty. He even references a personal moment between the two, accusing Travis of being emotionally distant after a vulnerable exchange following the rapper’s breakup with Kylie Jenner.
While the diss came as a surprise to many, especially considering Pharrell and Pusha were both featured on Scott’s “Meltdown” without hearing the full context of the song beforehand, Travis hasn’t publicly fired back. That said, fans are speculating that JACKBOYS 2 might drop on the same day as Pusha’s album, July 11, setting the stage for an indirect response through music.
Travis, staying true to his unpredictable style, recently returned to Instagram to post a cryptic teaser featuring brain exploding emojis and the phrase, “We shall eat soon.” The audio teased sounds are reminiscent of his darker, more atmospheric Days Before Rodeo era, with heavy synths and gritty drums engineered by longtime collaborator MIKE DEAN.
In the meantime, Scott has also been spotted juggling various brand partnerships and even making appearances in the WWE world. After posting photos from WrestleMania 41, he cryptically said he wanted “blood” after JACKBOYS 2, hinting that he’s ready for action in more ways than one.
Whether it’s the music, the drama, or the film rollout, Travis Scott is once again in full creative overdrive. And with tensions rising and expectations sky high, JACKBOYS 2 might just be the next big cultural bomb to go off.
