50 Cent, following the launch of the second-largest Black-owned film studio in Shreveport, Louisiana, is now set to make waves in Houston, Texas. He’s in the process of transforming two vacant spaces into a space for G-Unit Films and Television, along with an educational facility catering to local film students.
On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, 50 Cent secured the lease for the ( 985,000 sq ft) Millennium Movie Studio under his G-Unit Film & Television Louisiana, LLC, marking another milestone in his business portfolio. Now the South Jamaica, New York rapper has acquired Houston properties from Al Kashani, a land developer and vice president of Horizon International.
One stage will occupy the old Louis Shanks furniture store, totaling 135,000 square feet, and within Houston, both being estimated to cost between $3 million and $4 million total in renovation.
Recent reports indicate a significant increase in available funds for film and TV incentives in Texas, with state allocations rising from $45 million to $200 million during the last legislative session. This financial increase will most likely benefit 50 Cent’s profit on his investment in the studio spaces. While the stages will cater to commercial filmmakers, a significant portion of the facilities will also be dedicated to educational purposes through partnerships with local colleges.
Since relocating to Houston in May 2021, 50 Cent has actively engaged with the local community, through initiatives like Tycoon Fest, an annual music and comedy festival featuring a celebrity basketball game. He has become such a major part of the city that he was honored with the key to the city, further solidifying his ties to the vibrant cultural landscape of Houston.
50 Cent will be hosting his “Humor Harmony weekend” in Shreveport, Louisiana from August 8th to the 12th.
