Rihanna, the Barbadian singer and billionaire businesswoman, is venturing into the hair care industry with the upcoming launch of Fenty Hair, a new line under her popular Fenty Beauty brand. This move comes just a few months after Beyoncé released her hair care line, Cécred, in February 2024.
Following Fenty Beauty’s focus on inclusivity, Fenty Hair promises to cater to a wide range of hair textures and needs. Rihanna herself is known for frequently experimenting with her hairstyles, and according to her Instagram announcement, the new line will be a “flexible line of products” designed to “strengthen and repair all types of hair.” Specific products and pricing details are yet to be revealed, but fans can sign up for early access on the Fenty Hair website.
This launch marks another expansion for Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty brand, which has grown into a billion-dollar business since its debut in 2017. The brand initially gained recognition for its diverse foundation range that catered to a wider range of skin tones than many other makeup brands at the time. Fenty Beauty has since expanded to include skincare products under Fenty Skin and fragrances with Fenty Fragrance. Rihanna also owns a majority stake in the lingerie company Savage x Fenty.
The hair care industry is experiencing significant growth, projected to reach $107.5 billion by 2027, according to market research firm Technavio. Social media advertising and influencers are believed to be key factors driving this growth, with consumers increasingly interested in hair repair products. Both Rihanna and Beyoncé are known for their extensive social media followings, which they are likely to leverage to promote their respective hair care lines.
While details about Fenty Hair products are still limited, some have drawn comparisons to Beyoncé’s Cécred line, which also focuses on hair repair and targets textured hair types. Both launches highlight the growing importance of catering to diverse hair care needs and suggest potential competition between the two A-list celebrities in the hair industry.
