Snoop Dogg is making waves in the music world by saying goodbye to Spotify and switching to a new platform called Tune.fm. The rapper, known for his love of cryptocurrency, made the announcement that he’s moving to the decentralized music streaming service, Tune.fm, because he feels the money he gets from Spotify isn’t enough. He claimed that after getting one billion streams on Spotify, he only earned around $45,000, which he thinks is too low.
Spotify fired back, saying that a billion streams usually earns “millions” for rights holders. They suggested that the money might not have reached Snoop due to issues with middlemen. Despite this, Snoop stands by his decision and has said that he’s “done” with Spotify. He’s even released a new single, “Spaceship Party,” exclusively on Tune.fm.
Tune.fm is different from traditional streaming services because it uses blockchain technology. This means that artists get paid much faster—sometimes up to 100 times more than they would on other platforms. The platform uses a special currency called JAM, which lets fans stream music, tip artists, and unlock exclusive content. Tune.fm also allows artists to sell NFTs, merchandise, concert tickets, and even virtual experiences.
Snoop isn’t just stopping at releasing music on Tune.fm. He’s planning to bring more of his music, including songs from his Death Row Records catalog, to the platform. Plus, Tune.fm has big plans for fan experiences, VIP giveaways, and even private events.
The platform is hoping that Snoop’s involvement will help it stand out from other music services, especially as more and more non-music content—like AI-generated songs and podcasts—crowd traditional platforms. Tune.fm recently raised $50 million to grow its service and is actively working with top artists and record labels to offer more exclusive content.
Snoop Dogg’s decision to switch streaming platforms marks a shift toward a more artist-focused approach to music distribution, and fans can expect more exciting things from him and Tune.fm in the future.
