Baton Rouge, LA-born and Miami, FL-residing recording artist TBoss sat down with DJ Smallz to reflect on her music career, having previously signed to Cash Money Records back in 2023.
At the start of the interview, DJ Smallz and TBoss discuss her new “B.R.M.G.” pendant chain given by her manager, representing her new record label, Black Rain Music Group. She clarifies that she remains affiliated with Cash Money as well.
TBoss shares her experiences and insights into the inner workings of Cash Money Records, discussing its founders Slim (Ronald Williams “Slim”) and Birdman, as well as its most prominent artist, Lil Wayne.
She provides insights into the culture and dynamics within the label, describing it as a “life-changing experience” and highlighting its family-oriented atmosphere, where artists were closely connected and supportive of each other.
TBoss praises Cash Money’s hands-on approach, with Slim and Birdman actively involved in day-to-day operations and artist development. She speaks positively of the co-founders, describing them as “good people” who cared for their artists. When asked whom she would choose to be stuck with on an island, she selects Lil Wayne for his experience and Slim for his wisdom.
Regarding her closest relationships at Cash Money, TBoss mentions her engineers Laura and Fari, who keep her focused and motivated, along with her manager, her biggest supporter since childhood. She recalls how he recognized her potential when she was young and decided to manage her, emphasizing that he prioritized her music focus.
TBoss also shares her experiences working with Lil Wayne, praising his work ethic, talent, and support for fellow artists on the Cash Money roster.
Reflecting on her own career with Cash Money, TBoss expresses surprise at being signed to the label, assuming it was more inclined toward male artists. She notes that Slim personally invited her to join, with her single “Pick a Side” being the first release under Cash Money Records.
Despite the label’s controversial reputation, TBoss acknowledges Cash Money for providing opportunities, resources, and industry connections that advanced her career.
