Chicago Sky’s women’s basketball player Angel Reese has taken a significant step in her sports career by becoming a professional sports team owner. DC Power Football Club, a Washington-based women’s team who’s set to debut this summer in the United Soccer Super League, recently announced Reese as the first member of its ownership group.
Randallstown, Maryland, near Baltimore native Reese’s decision to join the ownership group comes from her choice to leave LSU for the WNBA. A three-time All-American, Reese notably led LSU to the 2023 NCAA championship and this year’s Elite Eight, following two seasons at Maryland.
The Washington-based Power FC women’s soccer team is among the eight teams slated to compete in the USL Super League’s inaugural season, commencing in August. Another eight teams are slated to join in 2025 or later, pending the completion of stadium projects, according to the league’s website.
With her deep ties to the D.C. area community, Reese, a Randallstown native, aims to create new avenues for aspiring professional athletes by joining Power FC. As the club’s first celebrity owner, Reese brings more than just her athletic prowess; she also expands DC Power’s influence beyond the DMV area and beyond soccer.
Angel Reese, a former LSU national champion and a standout member of the WNBA’s rookie class of 2024, will be playing against the New York Liberty for the Chicago Sky Thursday night May 23rd, at the Barclays Center. The Chicago Sky opened their season with two games, a win and a loss on the road against the Dallas Wings. She enters the league as an already established force in the sports business landscape, boasting major partnerships with brands like Reebok, Beats, and Tampax.
