Cordae Teams Up With Anderson .Paak, and J. Cole For “Summer Drop”

Raleigh, NC rapper Cordae has teamed up with Anderson .Paak and J. Cole for a new track titled “Summer Drop,” which will be featured on his upcoming album The Crossroads. The song, produced by J. Cole, carries a laidback, funky vibe that perfectly captures the essence of summer, with a touch of ’90s nostalgia.

“Summer Drop” sees Cordae reminiscing about his past summers, with lyrics like, “I saved up the whole summer, that’s how I got school clothes / I bought some Pumas and some fake chains, that was fool’s gold.” Anderson .Paak opens the track with a similar nostalgic tone, rapping, “Remember when summer dropped, we was at uncle’s spot / Three n****s with nothin’ to do but wrestle or slap box.”

The accompanying music video, directed by Samba Diop, visually complements the track’s laidback feel and nostalgic theme. This release follows the trio’s previous collaboration on last year’s track “Two Tens,” which also had J. Cole on production duties.

In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Cordae teased that there’s more music in store from himself, Anderson .Paak, and J. Cole. He revealed that they have a mixtape’s worth of material, including an EP filled with tracks featuring him and .Paak over Cole’s beats. Cordae emphasized the genuine friendship he shared with .Paak, stating that their collaborations come naturally from just hanging out and recording together.

While it remains uncertain if a full collaborative project between the trio will ever be released, Cordae has confirmed that his album The Crossroads is on the way. He recently shared a cinematic trailer for the album on social media, building anticipation among fans. The album is expected to include the Lil Wayne-assisted track “Saturday Mornings,” with rumored contributions from Hit-Boy, Pharrell, and G Herbo also likely to appear.
