J. Cole just made his fans’ day by dropping a surprise song called cLOUDs. The rapper shared the track on his Inevitable blog on Thursday (Feb. 20), explaining that he made it just a few days ago and decided on a name minutes before posting.
“Just wanted to share,” Cole wrote. “Made this a few days ago, then I added a second verse and was like, ‘man, I got a blog now, I can put whatever I want up there.’ I didn’t have a title 20 minutes ago when I decided to really put this up. But now I got one… ‘cLOUDs.’”
The song, produced by DZL and Omen (with a little help from Cole himself), features the rapper reflecting on his thoughts and current events. One of the most talked-about lines references the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump last June:

“I’m that bass in your trunk, the bullet that missed Trump / The gun that jammed ’cause it seemed God had other plans.”
Throughout the four-minute track, Cole drops wisdom about life, technology, and the way the world is changing. He raps about how kids are glued to screens, jobs are being replaced by machines, and why it’s important to hold onto dreams no matter what.
This release comes after Cole recently promised fans he’d be more active on his blog and share more music throughout the year. He admitted he’s been balancing music and family life, but he’s working on being more consistent.
“I knowwww mannnn. I’m off to a bad start with the consistency, but I’ma do better! Watch,” he wrote earlier this week. “I been locked in on the music while also balancing family life. It’s a juggling act.”
He even hinted that he might let other people from his team post on the blog to keep things fresh and keep him motivated.
With cLOUDs out now and Cole back in his creative bag, fans have a lot to look forward to in 2025.
