Kanye West has ignited further controversy by responding sharply to former Def Jam executive Lyor Cohen’s open letter, which criticized West’s recent antisemitic actions. Cohen, now YouTube’s Global Head of Music, expressed deep disappointment in West’s use of Nazi symbols and antisemitic rhetoric, urging him to reflect on the shared history between Jewish and Black communities in music.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Ye fired back by mocking Cohen’s name and accusing him of profiting from music that glorifies violence in Black communities. He wrote, “All of yall are like girls who don’t take accountability. It’s a double standard. Then yall threaten and extort people around me.” West also referenced Cohen’s former partner, fashion designer Tory Burch, in a personal anecdote.
West concluded his response by invoking the late Irv Gotti, a former Def Jam collaborator who recently passed away. He claimed to echo Gotti’s sentiments toward Cohen, stating, “And you know what Irv said to you before he passed, and since he not here, I’ll say it. S****ck Myyy D****ck.”
This exchange follows a series of actions by West that have drawn widespread condemnation, including selling T-shirts featuring swastikas and making public antisemitic statements. These actions have led to significant backlash, including the shutdown of his Yeezy.com store by Shopify for violating their terms.
