Disappointing news for music fans in Philadelphia! The Made in America Festival, a popular Labor Day weekend event, has been canceled for the second year in a row. Organizers made the announcement on social media this week.
While they didn’t explain the exact reason for the cancellation, they promised they’re working on a brand new kind of live music experience. It sounds exciting, but details are still a secret.
There were rumors that Bad Bunny and Tyler, the Creator might have headlined this year, along with artists like SZA, Lizzo, and Miguel. Imagine all those catchy tunes like Bad Bunny’s “Callaita,” or Tyler’s “EARL” filling the air in Philly – it would have been a blast!
Made in America Festival was curated by Jay-Z, and produced by his entertainment company Roc Nation in partnership with concert promoter Live Nation. Beyoncé, Kanye West, J. Cole, Pharrell Williams, Cardi B, Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Drake, Post Malone, Run-DMC, Justin Bieber, Cardi B, Travis Scott, Chance the Rapper, Schoolboy Q, YG, Janelle Monae, Afrojack, Jill Scott, Gary Clark Jr, Odd Future, John Mayer, Kings of Leon, Nine Inch Nails, and The National are among artists who have previously performed at MIA.
The pandemic forced a cancellation in 2020, but the festival returned in 2021. Last year (2023), things got tricky again with a last-minute cancellation just a month before the event. There were talks about issues with headliner Lizzo, but the official reason remained unclear.
Hopefully, the organizers can truly “reimagine” the Made in America experience and bring it back bigger and better than ever. Philadelphia deserves its Labor Day dose of amazing music, and music fans everywhere are ready to have a great time!
