Brooklyn, New York rapper MC Lyte is preparing to remind the world why she is considered one of the pioneers of female rap and an overall legend. She announced that she’ll be dropping new music this summer.
This will be the first time she’s released music in almost 10 years. The upcoming projects will follow her latest single “Woman” featuring Raheem DeVaughn, Big Daddy Kane, and Cheryl James(aka “Salt”), which was released on March 29th. It also follows MC Lyte’s 11-track album “Legend” released April 15th back in 2015.
In an interview with Rock The Bells Radio, the iconic MC revealed that fans will get some new songs from her beginning in June.
“I got a new record… We’ll have another single coming in June for Black Music Month, which is going to be spectacular. Of course, I’ve got some winning folks on this album, now I gotta talk to Major,” she told MC Sha-Rock and Grandmaster Caz.
MC Lyte continued stating that “The album comes out August 9 and the next single comes out June 9.” This is exciting news for fans, as her forthcoming effort will close an almost 10-year hiatus since her 2015 LP Legend.
This announcement follows her latest single “Woman” featuring Raheem DeVaughn, Big Daddy Kane, and Cheryl “Salt” James, which was released on March 29th. As well as her 2022 single “Roots Love and Culture.”
MC Lyte, born Lana Michele Moorer on October 11, 1970, was the first female rapper to release a full solo album with her critically acclaimed debut “Lyte as a Rock” in 1988. She was also the first female rapper to have a gold single, and the first solo female rapper nominated for a Grammy. MC Lyte has released 8 solo albums, with hits like “Ruffneck,” “Cha Cha Cha,” and “Poor Georgie,” “When in Doubt, Kick Out,” “Keep On, Keepin’ On” featuring Xscape, “Ride Wid Me,” and more.
