During the Super Bowl season last month, we reported that Snoop Dogg, the famous “Drop It Like It’s Hot” artist, had purchased the Death Row Records brand and trademark from MNRK Music Group. The deal’s terms were kept under wraps. Snoop’s most recent album, “B.O.D.R. (Bacc on Death Row),” was released on February 11, 2022, shortly after he confirmed his record label ownership.
Death Row Records’ albums by 2Pac and Dr. Dre are reported will not be incorporated in Snoop Dogg’s purchase of the iconic record label. According to sources, 2Pac is no longer signed to Death Row, indicating All Eyez On Me and The Don Killuminati The 7 Day Theory officially resigned from Death Row Records and relocated to Interscope Records on January 1, 2022, despite the fact that the Death Row Records catalog is apparently still in negotiating. Meanwhile, The Chronic, Dr. Dre’s solitary Death Row Records record, could be reissued as early as 2023, according to reports.
If claims are true, and both 2Pac and Dr. Dre’s albums are removed from the Death Row catalog, more than half of the catalog’s activity will be lost, and Snoop Dogg will become the label’s top-selling artist with Doggystyle, Death Row: Snoop Doggy Dogg at His Best Doggfather, and the recently released Back on Death Row.
Snoop Dogg revealed earlier that he had been collecting cryptocurrency NFTs under the identity Cozomo de’ Medici in September. Snoop’s NFT holdings are estimated to be worth $17 million.
During a Clubhouse conversation, Snoop Dogg stated that he intends to turn Death Row Records into the first NFT record label.
He stated that “Death Row will be an NFT label, We will be putting out artists through the metaverse.” Snoop Dogg continued “Just like we broke the industry when we was the first independent to be major, we want to be the first major in the metaverse.”
