The Roots Picnic is held in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park and is dedicated to its founders and hip-hop legends, The Roots. In addition to expanding into New York, they have stated that the festival would also continue with its roots in Philadelphia, where it has contributed to the development of the cultural scene. Despite being started by hip-hop legends, the festival has a broad mix of R&B, rap, and indie alternative performers.
The Roots Picnic is a hip-hop group’s yearly music festival that they established and run. The festival’s executive producer is Shawn Gee, co-founder, and manager of The Roots. On June 7, 2008, the festival held its first event, which took place in Philadelphia. A festival is usually a one-day event, but in 2012 it was extended to two days for the first time. In 2016, they held their first festival outside of Philadelphia. Their new location event was held in New York. It is expected to expand once more in 2022 for its forthcoming two-day event.
