On Sunday, May 15, 2022, the 2022 Billboard Music Awards were a memorable occasion for hip hop, and R&B. Sean “Diddy” Combs hosted this year’s event, which took place in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. With his introductory set and speech, Diddy led the way for the night, which was full of uncertain moments. Bryson Tiller and Jack Harlow took the stage for short performances (of Diddy’s new “Gotta Move On” and Harlow’s hit “First Class”). Teyana Taylor then took the stage to perform the “Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems” hook.
Travis Scott made an epic comeback, taking the crowd to the icy Alps for an ice performance of “Mafia,” his first since the AstroWorld disaster. Megan Thee Stallion ramped up the heat with a mashup of “Plan B” and “Sweetest Pie,” while Latto delivered a fiery rendition of her classic “Big Energy.” Burna Boy enthralled the audience with a mashup that included “Kilometre” and “Last Last.” Which were all great top highlights of the night. Janet Jackson honored Mary J. Blige with the Icon Award this year. Following a compilation video featuring H.E.R., Kiana Ledé, Ella Mai, Taraji P. Henson, Queen Latifah, and Missy Elliott, MJB joined the stage to remark on her career and acknowledge her fans and supporters, which included Missy Elliott, the host Diddy himself, the late Andre 3000, and many others.
