Nas, the legendary hip-hop artist, is set to go on a tour across the UK and Europe to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his iconic debut album, “Illmatic.” The tour, which kicks off in October 2024, will see Nas perform the album in its entirety, giving fans a chance to relive the magic of this seminal work.
“Illmatic,” released on April 19, 1994, is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. The album features a number of standout tracks, including “NY State of Mind,” “The World Is Yours,” and “Halftime,” all of which showcased Nas’ exceptional storytelling abilities and lyrical prowess. The album also featured guest appearances from DJ Premier, who produced the track “Memory Lane (Sittin’ in da Park).” The album sold 63,000 copies in its first week of release and peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard 200 list. It shipped one million copies in the US while receiving a platinum certification on December 11, 2001. and the album had sold two million copies in the US by February 6, 2019. The album has even been titled as one of “Greatest Albums of All Time” by a few well known music critics.
In addition to the “Illmatic” tour, Nas has also announced a new collaboration with DJ Premier, titled “Define My Name.” This new track is set to be released in conjunction with the tour, giving fans a taste of Nas’ continued artistic evolution.
The tour will take Nas across 15 cities in the UK and Europe, starting in Helsinki, Finland, on October 22nd and concluding in Offenbach, Germany, on November 8th. The UK part of the tour will see Nas perform in Manchester, Edinburgh, Wolverhampton, and London, with the Royal Albert Hall show set to be a highlight for many fans.
