Nicki Minaj has once again solidified her status as a rap icon by achieving a remarkable sales milestone, surpassing her longtime rival Cardi B in the process. On March 29, 2023, Chart Data revealed that Nicki’s hit single “Super Bass,” initially featured on the Pink Friday deluxe edition album in 2010 and later released as a single in 2011, had been certified an astonishing 12 times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

This certification, indicating sales or sales-equivalent units of at least 12 million, establishes “Super Bass” as the highest certified single ever released by a female rapper in the United States, surpassing Cardi B’s 2017 smash hit “Bodak Yellow,” which had been certified 11 times platinum in 2022.
Nicki Minaj, hailing from Queens, New York, wasted no time in celebrating this monumental achievement on social media. Immediately after Chart Data announced the news, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her gratitude, writing, “POW!!! thank you to Republic Records for always having my back. barrrbz!!!!!!”
But that wasn’t the only triumph for Nicki Minaj in the realm of sales. It was also revealed that her most recent album, Pink Friday 2, had achieved platinum certification, further solidifying her position as a powerhouse in the music industry. Although these updates were not yet reflected on the RIAA’s official website at the time, they were confirmed as accurate by HipHopDX.
The rivalry between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B has been well-documented, reaching a fever pitch in the fall of 2018 during an altercation at a Harpers Bazaar ICONS party in New York Fashion Week. This incident was followed by a heated Instagram rant from Cardi B, where she called out Nicki for various perceived slights and provocations, ultimately accusing her of being nothing more than a “studio gangster.”
Despite the tensions between the two artists, Nicki Minaj’s continued success speaks volumes about her enduring influence and impact on the rap landscape. As she adds yet another milestone to her impressive repertoire, it’s clear that Nicki Minaj’s legacy in hip-hop is firmly cemented, leaving an indelible mark for generations to come.
