In a year of breakout success for Sexyy Red, she adds another accolade to her list. Rolling Stone recently unveiled their selection for the best rap songs of 2023, and Sexyy Red’s hit single “SkeeYee” claimed the coveted top spot.
Rolling Stone praised Sexyy Red’s unique flow and Tay Keith’s production, describing it as a nod to simpler times. The infectious track, known for its catchy and playful nature, resonated with audiences and quickly gained popularity.
“SkeeYee” outshone other notable tracks like Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor,” Ice Spice‘s “Deli,” Veeze‘s “Not A Drill,” and J. Cole and Lil Yachty’s “The Secret Recipe,” securing its place as the standout rap song of the year.
Sexyy Red, a St. Louis native, celebrated the achievement with enthusiasm, expressing her gratitude for the recognition.
The song “SkeeYee” originally featured on Sexyy Red’s Hood Hottest Princess mixtape, released in June. It steadily climbed the charts, peaking at No. 62 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the latter half of 2023. Notably, the track is also a nominee for Best Hip Hop Song in the 2023 HipHopDX Awards, and Sexyy Red herself is in the running for Rookie of the Year.
Beyond its chart success, “SkeeYee” became a cultural phenomenon, with memorable moments like the New York Jets practicing to the catchy tune in August, which went viral and extended the song’s popularity.
However, amid the triumphs of the year, Sexyy Red faced disappointment when a private video was leaked on social media. She candidly shared her feelings, expressing frustration about the situation.
Despite the ups and downs, 2023 has undeniably been a significant year for Sexyy Red, with “SkeeYee” rightfully earning its place as the standout rap anthem of the year.
