Angel Reese Announces She’s Headed To The WNBA

After a disappointing loss to Iowa in the Elite 8 of women’s college basketball, Angel Reese has decided to take her talents to the WNBA. In a statement to vogue.com a week before the start of the NCAA tournament, the 21-year-old Reese, a junior who has won numerous awards including the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and national champion, announced her decision. Her reason for declaring her entry into the WNBA draft was entirely Angel Reese’s style and far from basic; she knew she could have taken the traditional sports player route with the announcement, but being the Bayou Barbie she is, she had to make a splash. Leah Faye Cooper spoke to Angel while she was still in her off-campus apartment in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

As for her collegiate career, Angel Reese stated, “I’ve accomplished everything I set out to do in college. I’ve won a national championship, earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, and been named an All-American. My ultimate goal is to turn pro and become one of the greatest basketball players ever to play the game. I feel like I’m ready.” In a press conference after the Elite 8 game, Angle said that since winning the 2023 National Championship, she hasn’t had peace. With new goals and competition at the next level, Angle believes she will have enough time to block out negative distractions and continue to secure the bag.

As she sets her sights on the WNBA, she remains dedicated in her pursuit of greatness, fueled by past achievements and a hunger for more. With each step forward, Angle embraces the challenges ahead, ready to leave her mark on the basketball world and cement her legacy among the sport’s elite.
