Star (TV Show) Will Make A Comeback, But as a Movie According to Quincy Brown And Lee Daniels

The much-loved Fox Musical drama series ‘Star’, which got the cancelled back in 2019, is making a comeback – but this time as a TV movie, as confirmed by co-creator Lee Daniels and actor Quincy Brown.

While many fans are thrilled about the news, some aren’t so happy because the revival won’t be a full-blown series with multiple episodes; instead, it’s going to be a movie.

Lee Daniels shared the update on Instagram, saying, “The bad news is that ‘Star’ is not getting picked up for series,” said Daniels in a video post on Instagram, calling the explanation “too long of a story to cry about…..The good news is: we’re doing a movie of the week to wrap things up for you all,” he said, adding, “We’re going to make something real special for you to scream about, with all of our cast members – even the dead ones”

Quincy Brown, who played Derek in the series, confirmed the news on his Instagram Story, saying, “Star the Movie coming soon! Ain’t that right LeeDaniels?” He also shared a picture of himself holding a Star script, beaming with excitement.

For those unfamiliar with “Star,” it’s a TV series created by Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy, which premiered on December 14, 2016, on Fox. The story follows three talented young singers as they navigate the music industry on their journey to success. The cast includes Quincy Brown, Queen Latifah, Ryan Destiny, Amiyah Scott, Brittany O’Grady, Benjamin Bratt, Luke James, Lance Gross, Jude Demorest, William Levy, Matthew Noszka, Eli Johnson, Michael Michele, Brandy Norwood, and Stephen Dorff.

The series also featured guest appearances from various stars, including Keke Palmer, Naomi Campbell, Tyrese Gibson, Paris Jackson, Terrence J, Evan Ross, Darius McCrary, and much more, with guest appearances from Quavo, Teyana Taylor, Big Boi, Mike Epps, Porsha Williams, Kimberly Elise, Meagan Good, Missy Elliott, Draya Michele, Kelly Price, Gladys Knight, Jussie Smollet, Tiny, Monica Brown, Patti Labelle and more.

For those who haven’t watched it yet, “Star” follows the story of Star Davis, a 17-year-old orphan who flees her foster home to protect her younger sister Simone from abuse. Along the way, she joins forces with singer/songwriter Alexandra Crane, and together they establish a musical group. They relocate to Atlanta, Georgia, finding solace in Carlotta Brown, a close friend and former singing partner of their late mother. Carlotta vowed to care for the girls after their mother’s passing, guiding and shielding them.

Despite Carlotta’s reservations about their dreams, she encourages them to work hard to make ends meet. Their path to success is paved with challenges as they struggle to secure a record deal. Their beacon of hope comes in the form of music producer Jahil Rivera, who takes a chance on them. Over time, they carve a niche for themselves as burgeoning artists in Atlanta. The series delves into their struggles and achievements as they pursue their dreams, with the support of Carlotta and Jahil. Although the movie reportedly started production shortly after the series was canceled, there’s no word yet on when it will premiere.
