Lil Nas X continues to break records, this time matching an enormous chart record that was just accomplished by Post Malone and Swae Lee. The Grammy-winning, Lithia Spring, GA artist was released in 2018, the “Industry Baby 2.0” artist eventually included the song on his debut EP 7, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 77,330 total album equivalent units, after it was initially released as a standalone single.
The collaborative track “Sunflower” by Post Malone and the Rae Sremmurd singer earlier last month November became the highest charting single in US RIAA history, making history. On November 14, the song, which was created for the Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse album in 2018, received a 17x platinum certification, breaking the previous record of 15x platinum held by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” remix.

The record, however, was short-lived because “Old Town Road,” which has already been certified 17 times platinum by Chart Data, is now ranked equally with Post Malone and Swae Lee single “Sunflower.”

In July 2019, it surpassed Mariah Carey and Luis Fonsi’s previous record for the longest-running Billboard No. 1 hit. It was the single to attain diamond status the quickest later that year. Later, in August of this year, the song on YouTube crossed over 1 billion views.
This year, Lil Nas X has won numerous awards and surpassed many charts. For instance, on November 19, his single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” was certified 6x platinum, with his singles “Sun Goes Down,” “Scoop,” and “Scoop,” featuring Doja Cat, both reached gold status.
