Bow Wow Will Host the 2023 House of BET Awards as He Revives the Iconic ‘Mr. 106 & Park’s Title

Bow Wow, the renowned rapper-turned-actor, has been bestowed with the prestigious title of Host of the House Of BET for the highly anticipated BET Awards.

The “Bounce With Me” artist shared the exhilarating news with his fans and supporters through a Twitter announcement on Friday. In his tweet, Bow Wow expressed his excitement, saying, “Yo it’s official! @bet is bringing the House of BET to LA in celebration of the BET Awards 2023 & you already know who they gave the keys to.. ME.” He also revealed that he will be the official host for the entire weekend, proudly reclaiming his Mr. 106 & Park status. As the host of the House Of BET, Bow Wow has planned an array of exciting events for the weekend. He tweeted, “We’re bringing back 106&Park Live, Rap City Karaoke, Rip the Runway, some lit parties and more.”

Bow Wow’s association with 106 & Park dates back to October 2012 when he became one of the four new hosts until the show concluded in November 2014. Before his stint as a host, Bow Wow had already earned the notable title of Mr. 106 & Park by having the most retired music videos in the show’s history. This distinction further solidified his connection with the show and its loyal viewers.

The origin of 106 & Park has been a subject of debate between Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri. In an interview with The Goats And Underdogs podcast, Dupri claimed to have created the show specifically for Bow Wow. He expressed his concern that Black artists, like Bow Wow, were not receiving equal treatment on MTV’s TRL compared to their pop counterparts. Dupri shared his conversation with Stephen G. Hill, the then President of Programming at BET, about creating a youth-oriented video countdown show similar to TRL. Bow Wow countered these claims on Twitter, stating, “JD aint create 106&Park stop the cap…All I did was capitalize off of what they created and made it mine.”

The House Of BET event is not only a celebration of the BET Awards but also a curated brand experience that pays homage to the Black experience, BET IP, and the Black community. The event, scheduled for June 22-25 in Los Angeles, will also feature programming by Watch Jazzy. The highly anticipated BET Awards ceremony will air on Sunday, June 25, at 8 p.m. ET and promises to be a memorable night filled with performances by renowned artists such as Lil Uzi Vert and GloRilla.

This year’s BET Awards hold special significance as they commemorate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. Connie Orlando, the EVP of BET, expressed her excitement, stating, “We have an incredible lineup of performers who will take us on a musical journey, covering Hip-Hop spanning every decade, style, and region.” The ceremony aims to celebrate the rich history, enduring legacy, and promising future of hip-hop, while also showcasing its diversity, evolution, and global impact. With reunions and surprises in store, the BET Awards will undoubtedly be an unforgettable night for both artists and viewers alike.

Bow Wow’s appointment as the host of the House Of BET adds an extra layer of anticipation and excitement to the upcoming BET Awards. With his plans to revive beloved shows like 106&Park Live and Rap City Karaoke, along with the presence of other renowned artists, the House Of BET promises to be a remarkable event celebrating Black culture, music, and the vibrant legacy of hip-hop. Eager fans can now RSVP for the festivities by visiting BET’s website to secure their spot. The event is scheduled to take place from Thursday, June 22, to Sunday, June 25, in Los Angeles.
